Jessica Liaw, OD, FAAO
Optometrist
Dr. Liaw grew up in the Seattle area. She earned her B.S. Physiology with Honors from the University of Washington and her Doctorate of Optometry degree from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry.
Dr. Liaw's comprehensive clinical training includes primary care, ocular disease, contact lenses, and surgery co-management at UC Berkeley Meredith Morgan University Eye Center, Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care, and David Grant US Air Force Medical Center. Furthermore, she completed a residency in cornea and contact lenses at Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University. Through this vigorous residency program, she obtained her clinical expertise and competency in corneal disease and specialty contact lenses.
Dr. Liaw specializes in fitting specialty contact lenses, including corneal and scleral GP contact lenses, prosthetic lenses, and custom soft contact lenses. Her expertise is particularly focused on addressing the needs of patients with irregular corneas, ocular surface disease, aphakia, and severe refractive errors. She has a keen interest in the treatment of ocular conditions such as keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, and dry eye syndrome.
Dr. Liaw's passion for myopia management arises from evidence that the effects of moderate and high levels of myopia extend beyond the need for stronger glasses prescriptions. These levels of myopia pose a significant risk of sight-threatening eye diseases. She is proficient in various techniques, including orthokeratology (Ortho-K), Misight, multifocal soft contact lenses, and atropine treatments, to mitigate these risks and the long-term complications associated with myopia.
Dr. Liaw values the importance of active listening and strives to educate and empower her patients to participate in their eye care journey. Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Liaw's personal interests extend to her former passion as a competitive figure skater. She finds joy in spending time at the ice-skating rink and maintaining an active lifestyle. Additionally, she enjoys exploring hiking trails and skiing during her leisure time.
